„Runaway Jury” as an illustration of the
imperfections of the US judicial system.

renowned for having one of the most sophisticated judicial systems in the
world. Every day thousands of people, including law enforcement officers,
lawyers, judges, government officials and even accused criminals, take part in
this system, hoping to settle disputes and work for justice. One of the keys to
this success is a balanced and carefully ordered hierarchy: Several different
federal courts control issues relating to federal law and each state has its
own set of courts that can adapt to the needs of its people. In an adversarial
system, litigants present their cases before a neutral party. The arguments
expressed by each litigant (usually represented by lawyers) are supposed to
allow the judge or jury to determine the truth about the conflict. The most
attention we should focus on a jury and
members, who in the movie "Runaway jury" were the most
important characters. Jury is a sworn body of people convened to render an
impartial verdict (a finding of fact on a question) officially submitted to
them by a court, or to set a penalty or judgment.
This film shows not only the tragic story of a
widow, but most of all shows manipulation and the dark side of the trial. We
can see how the President of jury, Nickolas Easter makes contact with Fitch's
legal consultant company which sells weapons. Marlee is the woman of Nickolas
who works with him but she doesn’t sit on the jury. They manipulate the two
parties of trial. They guarantee win for millions of dollars. They have the own purpose and thirst for
justice for the done harms. Each viewer in the end of film can feel calm because the good wins,
but he can also feel imperfections of the US judicial system. Why? Because
under the law the jury must issue a decision impartially, in own group with a
view to the good of the complainant. If
in reality are such scams as in this
film, it proves of the imperfections of the US judicial system.
